What is Group Spiritual Direction?

Group Spiritual Direction is a process in which people gather to companion one another in deepening their awareness of God in the “midst, mess, and mystery” of our daily lives. nurture deep sharing and listening among fellow travelers.  Sessions will include silence, prayer, and sacred listening as each participant offers personal sharing. Following specific guidelines, members of the group are invited to respond with heartfelt awareness to what was shared in light of the movement of the Spirit. Our intention in this ministry is to awaken in us the sacred sense of Mystery that blossoms in the community as we witness God’s presence in the lives of ourselves and others.

Sessions last for 90 minutes and will include 4-6 participants. Facilitators will rotate throughout the year.  It is not necessary to commit to attending each month.  You are welcome to join as often as you are drawn to do so.

The Group spiritual direction process requires that all participants agree to the following request:

  • Listen with an open, vulnerable stance and a compassionate heart.
  • Trust that what is being shared by others is sacred and not ours to judge.
  • Respond with the desire to be a loving witness to all present.
  • Respect the confidentiality of all members, and refrain from cross-talk. Group spiritual direction is not about advice-giving.
